For Donors 70½ and Older
A tax-wise gift from your IRA
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) lets you give directly from your IRA to First Lutheran. It can make a real impact here while keeping the distribution out of your taxable income.
Please consult your advisor
This information is general and is not tax advice. Talk with your tax professional or IRA trustee about your situation.
IRA basics
- Donors must be age 70½ or older on the date of the gift.
- The distribution counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).
- Gifts up to $100,000 per individual taxpayer are eligible each tax year.
- Distributions must be made directly from the trustee to the qualified charity.
- The gift must be complete by December 31 of the year the QCD is made.
How it can benefit you
- You pay no income tax on the gift.
- You benefit even if you do not itemize deductions.
- Lowering your reported income may help lower Medicare premiums and reduce the share of Social Security subject to tax.
- The QCD qualifies toward your Required Minimum Distribution.
Is there a charitable tax deduction?
